The future of offshore IT outsourcing

Sunday, 26 October 2008

Every day we work with clients from different countries and we feel like there are no borders any more. Sometimes we even feel that our clients are in the same room because communication methods are so fast and easy. No doubt, everything is possible for people who want to work together. But what will be the future of offshore IT outsourcing?

The credit crunch is certainly changing international business and IT outsourcing in particular.
Today it becomes clear that certain business location cannot guarantee reliability and quality of work. Do you trust your bank system now? Banks are located everywhere, but people don’t trust banks any more. The credit crunch also demonstrates how dependent we are on each other.

Small, medium and large businesses are looking for different ways to cut their costs and remain competitive. Small business will be much more interested in using person-to-person offshore model. Medium business will be more interested in having a reliable offshore dedicated team.

With regard to IT outsourcing and offshore web development we think that clients will be looking for (in the order of importance):

From the one hand there’s nothing new, because lower cost, quality and speed of work are the same things that clients required for the past several years. But from the other hand the demand for these three components will be much higher in the nearest future.

Unfortunately it’s hard for providers to combine all the three things in one. Some will provide lower costs and fast development, but will sacrifice quality. Others will provide reliable and quality services but the cost will be much higher.

Today we are working to provide all the three advantages to our clients: lower cost, remain quality of services and reduce development time. We strongly believe that it’s possible and already making certain steps. I will be writing about these steps soon.

As a developer I might be only worried that people will put the very low cost as their only desire. In most cases it will result in poor quality and long development time. And it’s not unusual that many of such projects will never get done.

That’s why I would like to advice all those people who will be looking for offshore web development services in the future: at least don’t forget to check out provider’s experience and take your time and contact with other clients of the provider to get to know more. The future of offshore IT outsourcing depends on both of clients and developers and everything is in our hands.
