Shoppingindex is an online comparison shopping engine in Denmark founded by Martin Maglebjerg, CEO of Cegomedia. We were happy to implement his ideas and currently provide ongoing maintenance and support bringing this rapidly growing startup to the next level.

Shoppingindex engine interacts directly with e-commerce shops and other systems which provide real-time data about products in xml or csv formats. The main functionality of the engine is a Feed Import Tool (FIT). With FIT administrator can easily setup all needed logics for regular information update for each product type from hundreds of merchants every day. FIT consists of 5 main parts: product management module, XML uploader, CVS uploader, feed splitter and feed update module.

By means of product management module administrator manages all information about categories, subcategories and product categories including URLs and SEO settings for the structure of the shoppingindex. Each product has common and custom properties. Such information as price, brand, and product description are common properties. With FIT one can create custom product properties for each product category. For example for mobile phones one can add color, style, model, etc.

XML uploader. FIT works with XML data feeds which can be accessed by URL or uploaded as a file. In both cases administrator can see all parameters of the product available in the data feed and setup corresponding parameters from the comparison engine system. After setup FIT imports new feed in the system and since that moment the feed will be updated on a regular basis by the system. Administrator has all options edit/delete feed rules.

CVS uploader works in a similar way as XML uploader, but with CSV data. The difference is that administrator can define delimiter between data fields and other settings based on the structure of CSV file.

Feed splitter is a very useful function for organizing product data in a certain way. Very often merchants provide data about their products in one single XML or CSV file. With feed splitter one can divide feeds into several feeds and update only needed information for certain product categories.

Feed updater manages all the information about the products in the system. Each day it  loads new information about products into the database, deletes old products, matches products and offers from different shops, etc.
